"There's a Bunch of Robots Outside That Want Us Dead"

Mikhail Kirichenko

"There's things out there.  Robots.  I don't know how we're going to get past them -- they've got searchlights and everything.  They'll track our movements, sense us before we even get close to their line of sight.  If you've got a plan to getting out of here, I'd like to hear it sooner rather than later."  The negativity of Mikhail was a familiar sight, but one that brought realism to the situation.  He didn't have his head in the clouds, and he sure as hell knew that their chances of surviving this nightmare were very slim indeed.  And as the Russian man peeked through the small gap he had created from the rusted metal door of the building, the image before him told the story in plain words.

"We can't out-run these things.  Not a chance.  Well, maybe there is a chance.  But that's going to involve ducking and dodging thousands of bullets from the cannons they've got strapped to their arms, not to mention the rocket launchers I see on the shoulder of the big goliath beast over there.  Look at it -- circling around like it owns the place.  Like it's waiting for us to head out in to the open."  The Russian turned around and wiped his dirty hands on his grubby khaki jumpsuit -- the upper half folded around his waist and displaying his similarly filthy black t-shirt.  All-in-all, Mikhail was pretty minging right now.  "What we got?  Flamethrower... and a grenade launcher with very little ammo.  If I leave two bullets for you two, then that doesn't give us very many robots we can kill."

Juron's arms were folded across her chest, she didn't like the sound of what Mikhail was describing outside anymore than he seemed to like it. She wasn't quite sure what they should do. It's not like they had many options. Either stay in the building they were currently trying to escape from-- or head out into an open area completely covered in machines that could kill them before Mikhail could utter another complaint. But honestly, Mikhail was right. They had no chance as far as she could see once they stepped out there. Maybe they should look for another way out. Despite how long it took them to even find this door that went to... what? A dangerous outside that they could die from still, even if it was faster than what that crazed German woman had planned for them inside these walls? "I don't know what to tell you Mikhail, I honestly don't. For once I am not seeing any solution to this... I wish I-"

"Isn't it obvious?" Jadeith piped up from behind the two, her eyes resting on something that the other two obviously hadn't seen. "Fucked up as it may sound, but we skate." The young woman walked over to the pair of roller-skates just sitting abandoned in a corner. Along with it were other pairs, enough for four or five people. Picking up a pair Jadeith held them in view of Juron who didn't seem all that pleased.

"You're kidding, right? Doesn't that seem just a little bit... too coincidental for there to be roller-skates just laying about when we're looking for an escape? I don't think it's such a good idea. It could all be one big set up. What if they're rigged? Set to explode, or have a tracking device?" Shaking her head Juron made a move to head towards her sister and snatch the skates from her hands but before she could, Jadeith had sat down and was kicking off her sneakers to put on the too-small roller-skates.

"It's a chance I am willing to take. I would rather die quickly out there than slowly and painfully in here. You hear me?"

The Russian was having none of it.  Not because it was a stupid idea.  Not because it was completely and utterly dangerous.  But because he just couldn't skate.  He'd tried it when he was younger, just like every kid in his village did, but each time he attempted a few yards -- he fell on his backside.  "No.  No chance.  You do it.  You go out there, see how far you get.  I'm gonna keep watch, and if you make it down the road and in to the next hiding spot then congratulations -- you've won a chocolate medal.  If not -- guess I don't have to put up with any more silly ideas."  Mikhail turned to face the other Bratthen girl.  "Unless your sister starts spouting bullshit."

Juron dropped her gaze before Mikhail could catch her eye. She knew better. Knew better about lots of things. About listening to her stupid ideas that popped into her head. About getting involved in anything with Mikhail because it usually meant that they would get in trouble. Their current state of position was still hard to figure out. Who's fault was it this time? Her eyes shifted from the floor to Jadeith who was beginning to tie the laces in place on one of them, it was probably hers. It usually happened that way when she was involved. Then it would lead to Juron going to Mikhail and from there forward. The woman pursed her lips, her sister was going to go out there no matter what she said or did.

"If we all go out there together, it'll be harder for them to target us. They'll get confused." Jadeith said matter-of-factly looking up from Juron to Mikhail, and back again. "They're just machines. They can't be that smart."

"They're robots Jadeith. Armed-FUCKING-robots. There are more of them, then there are of us. How do you think that will work, huh?" Juron shook her head in frustration. "It wont work Jade. We need to come up with another way. I don't trust this. I don't."

"Well... I'm going out there. You guys can be chicken-shits and find another way. But I'm going out. I'm getting the fuck out of here and getting past them." Jadeith pointed in the direction of the robots that Mikhail had seen, determination written on her face. "Say hi to that German psycho-bitch when she scoops in and takes you guys back upstairs, alright?"

Jadeith made her way to the door, her roller-skates hardly making a sound as they rolled her past Juron over to where Mikhail was standing. Peeking out she took in the layout before her before turning back to Mikhail, "I'll be expecting my chocolate medal."

Juron covered her face with her hands as her younger sister made her way outside. Moments after Jade had disappeared the sounds of active fire was heard. Bullets were heard hitting the outside of their hiding place and it caused Juron to scream from surprise. Covering her mouth Juron's eyes were wide with fear from her outburst. What if someone heard it? The firing stopped, there was not a sound from the other side and Juron stared hard at Mikhail. She didn't dare more. Didn't dare look outside for fear of what she'd see. She shouldn't have let her sister go out there alone.
