Lycans
« on: April 02, 2009, 12:07:49 PM »
I'm all for artistic interpritation: actually I love it. It amazes me to see the many variations of one thing someone could come up with, each a little more colorful than the last. Since there are so many variations and so much room to confuse and get lost, I thought to, (finally put up the rules for the Lycans I play. (Which makes these the rules for the many of you who play with my character Keshayla. But, this stuff really isn't new to those individuals, so think of this as a good refrence!)

First things first: Lycans.

Weaknesses

Silver: This is an obvious one, but again, I tend to play with this a little differently than some. If a Lycan picks up a silver ring, they're not going to be engulfed in a flame of pain and start screaming. The metal will be cool at first, but the longer the skin has contact against the metal, the more 'allergic' they become to to it. It starts off as an itch at first, like a bug bite. The skin turns red, irritated from the metal, and mostly harmless at this stage. A few minutes longer, the metal would cause the skin to rash, and as it becomes more agitated, the more sever it becomes. It turns 'hot' next, giving the sensation of burns increasing in intensity as it starts to eat at the skin, causing bruising to surface around the wounded skin. Skin would give way to muscle, and as the muscle, sinew and tendons melted away, next would be bone. Not a pleasant process, and it's possible to have the metal eat through a limb within two days if left on.

Stabbing a lycan with a silver blade isn't recommended: The metal is soft, and there's a good chance that they would break the blade before giving you a chance. Shooting them with a silver bullet wouldn't grant an instant kill either. But, if shot, the wound wouldn't knit together like iron or nickle would grant them. The wound would bleed and fester, and it's from the initial infection that the shifter would die. However, if they're smart, or been in these situations before, carrying an iron blade would be handy. With this, they're able to cut around the inflicted wound, removing the silver and the tainted skin so that it could heal.

Electricty: There isn't an official reason for this, just one I like to toy with. Anyone ever been shocked before? It's not fun, causes muscles to tighten and flex while an icy chill runs through the body. Since my shifters don't care much for the cold, this causes some issues. The tight bunching of muscles is also painful. Imagine a charley horse consuming your whole body. Now imagine that with their strength, and with muscles that humans didn't own. It's going to hurt, which will be a good time to take advantage of them.

Cold: Not every shifter is against the cold, but it does slow the blood and causes the body to shut down when in extream conditions. The same is for shifters. Their bodies, thanks to the two forms, burn hotter than a humans, (an average temperature would be 104.7 F) While it would take longer for hyperthermia to kick in, they're still able to fall victem to it.

Anithropes: This is where there is some confussion: If a Lycan, or a ursuthrope, or any shifter were to attack and you managed to survive, they wouldn't transmit any sort of dna that would alter your so you would shift the next full moon. But what does happen, is that the wounds fail to close. Anithropes, durring their shifting, are generally covered with a thick, clear goop like wallpaper paste that hardens to a glue when it dries. (A brush is certainly needed to scrape the stuff off! It's not easy...) This goo is venomous; while it doesn't burn the skin, or have any initial reaction when touch; it slips into the shifter's claws and mouth, so that when a wound is created with either of them, the wound will fail to close. This is true for vampires, other shifters, and all things with a natural healing ability. Magic is needed to clean the wounds, detox, and then heal if time is not on their side.

Hierarchy

Alfa: This would be the most powerful wolf in the pack, the leader. Typically, possessing the greater intelligence, strength, agility, and constitution, blood-lines sometimes have a play with this as well. In order to become the alfa, the Lycan needs to slay or win the fight against the current alfa; though to challenge alfas this is often asking for death or a Rouge status. Alfa's don't have to be male.

Beta: Second in command, the alfa's 'lieutenant of sorts. Again, this is a male/female possition, chosen by the alfa. Those chosen for the beta possition often show high inteligence and charisma as well, they work more closely along the pack and occationally are chosen mates.

Workers: The equivalent to the lower middle class of human society, while some boast of great brute force Workers usually aren't able to ascend past their rank. However, they're mostly treated with respect since the pack rests on the back of the Workers.

Lone Wolf/Rogue: Typically, this is a possition feared by most wolves since it's the equivilant to exile. They're normally shunned by the pack and left to die, due to crimes or failure.

Bolverk: The Bolverk, named after Bolverk of Norse mythology, is the enforcer of the Ulfric. The Bolverk carries out punishments or performs duties the Ulfric does not want to do himself, or if he is not available to do so. Generally the tasks assigned to the Bolverk are the most unsavory in terms of "normal" acceptance, i.e. having to kill a rogue member. Often at times the Bolverk is used as almost as a bogeyman to keep other wolves in line. The Bolverk is allowed three helpers called Baugi, Suttung, and Gunnlod. The titles Baugi and Suttung are based on the two giants Bolverk tricked to get the mead of poetry; the Gunnlod is named after Suttung's daughter, who Bolverk seduced for the mead of poetry.

Erato and Eros: These roles are held by other werewolves who help the new werewolves learn to control themselves and their physical form during shifting or sex.

Freki and Geri: The Alfa's third and fourth in command.

Lupa: Named for Lupa, the mother of Romulus and Remus, the position is reserved for the Alfa's chosen mate. Although the lupa need not fight for her/his position, the position of most dominant female (or male in the case of male Lupas) is determined by conflict. The term is Latin for "she-wolf" and "prostitute."

Freyja: A lupa who declares herself independent of the Ulfric and challenges the Ulfric to reclaim her. Any male wolf may win her by having sex with her. The male wolves will do anything, including kill each other, to win her. Often Keshayla is mistaken for Freyja because of her status, which brings complications to her dealings with the packs.
