Never Trust A Lady In Crazy Shoes'
« on: January 27, 2010, 07:47:42 PM »
There are two small, privately owned islands just off the shores of Sicily. On one, about twice as big as the other lives a woman. A pale skinned, red haired, likes to keep to herself woman. She owns and operates a small asylum that nobody has ever really heard of. Her name, is Adalinda Knapp. Her little place was run by a few select doctors, and 'helpers' as she liked to call them. It was an easy, quiet place to run. Not many patients occupied the blindingly white walls, but those who did were guaranteed the 'best' attention money could buy.

A distance away, was the other island.  It was about twice as big as an average sized house with just two occupants living on it in a nice, fair sized house. One of them, a male. A sandy haired, hard mannered, never really understood the word 'no' male named Mikhail Kirechenko. His companion, a woman not much younger than himself. Brown haired, pain in his ass, talks too much girl named Juron Bratthen. They were such a strange couple.

Usually, two people could live on the same street and never know each others name. It would sound reasonable enough for two people leaving on two different islands! But these three, knew each other very well. Simply because one of Adalinda's patients was Juron Bratthen's younger.. 'disturbed' sister. The three had had a run in while in Sicily, gathering supplies, and doing just a little bit of shopping. Juron had been expressing her concerns for her younger sisters well being at a facility she was already at. Stating it didn't seem to be doing the girl much good. Adalinda had overheard, and spoke about her little place she ran, that was better than anywhere else. Invited the two to come and check it out. After that... well, the rest is history. Jadeith Bratthen was admitted a week later.

But.. even though Jadeith did infact seem to be doing better at her new 'home' Juron still couldn't help but feel... like it wasn't right.

"Mikhail," Juron said softly, walking up the pathway to Adalinda's Asylum during one of their frequent weekly visits to the place, "what would you say if... I wanted to bring Jadeith home, to live with us?"

Reaching the front door, Juron turned to look at the Russian man at her side as she pressed the buzzer, to announce their arrival. "I just... I'm wondering if it would be better. Maybe that's what she needs? To be around people that love her."

The door opened and Adalinda smiled out at the two, a smile that didn't look quite right on her pale complexion. "Juron! and Mikhail! How wonderful to see the two of you. Please, come in. I'm sure Jadeith will be just as glad." She said stepping out of the way for the two to enter. "She's just finishing up with ah.. one of the helpers. But the rec room is free. If you wouldn't mind, follow me."

Mikhail liked the idea of living on an island that was barely double the size of his rather small house.  The building was perched on a rock foundation, which created a sort of steep cliff-effect that surrounded their house.  A set of steps lead down to a wooden pier, which Mikhail usually liked to describe as their driveway.  The weather was hot, it rained very little, and the sights around them were magnificant.  Sure, in the distance there were other small islands of similar shape, but out here... this was heaven.

With Jadeith out of the house, everything was starting to get better again.  But today, Juron was in danger of messing it all back up.  She wanted her sister back, and that was something Mikhail just couldn't say yes to.  "What?  She's doing fine here!  I haven't seen her this happy in years.  You're just missing her, that's all.  You're being selfish, Juron.  Stop being selfish."  Mikhail drew a smile on his face when Adalinda answered the door.  He liked Adalinda.  There was something about her, sure, but she seemed to enjoy helping these poor sickos.  Rather her helping them than him, that's all he was thinking.

Sitting down in the rather uncomfortable couch in the rec room, Mikhail sighed and stretched out his legs.  "She stays here.  The house isn't big enough for three people anyway!"

Juron's brow creased as she sat down next to Mikhail on the couch, wrapping her arms around her bent knees since she sat forward. Maybe he was right... no, he probably was right. She did miss her sister, and never really did get used to the idea of someone else looking after her baby kin. She couldn't help it, as much as they hadn't gotten along... didn't get along Juron still felt like it was her responsibility to look after the girl. But was she being jealous? Juron wasn't really sure. Of course.. the girl did infact seem happy where she was, so maybe this really was for the best.

She wouldn't bring it up again, not with Adalinda standing around. Juron didn't want to insult the nice woman.

"Jadeith's been getting along quite well here," Adalinda said, smiling down at the two where they sat. "I think this week might have been her best... she doesn't cry as frequent anymore." Her eyes narrowed a bit at Juron who just stared ahead, watching the door, waiting for her sister to appear. "I know you're worried about her, Miss Bratthen, but he is right. She's better off here, than going home with you two. You'd have to watch her all the time. Now, I'm not sure about you, but I can bet a pretty penny that that isn't what Mikhail here, would like to do. She's better off in a controlled environment, where trained professionals are able to look out for here around the clock."

Juron nodded her head slowly, her brown eyes moving to look at the red haired woman who still stood, in a pair of heels that looked too complicated to even walk in. They were black, and shiny. Probably would look out of place in this facility had it been anyone else wearing them. "I know..." she fell silent after that, seeing her sister walk into the room, with a man dressed in black clothing behind her. She stood up, smiling as her sisters eyes picked themselves up off the ground and stared back at her.

"Thank you, Charles. That will be all." Adalinda said causing the man to nodd his head before backing out of the room.

"Jadeith, your sister and Mikhail are here to see you. Why don't you come in and sit down on the couch for a nice visit? Tell them about all the progress you are making."

Jadeith stared over at Juron and Mikhail, her eyes sliding up to Adalinda everytime she spoke before slowly shuffling her bootied feet across the floor towards them. Juron hugged the girl as soon as she got close enough, and they sat down on the couch together, shifting over so that Mikhail didn't complain.

"How are you?"

"I'm okay."

"You're liking it here?"

Jadeith nodded and slipped her hand into a pocket on her blue housecoat, pulling out a small clay figure of a horse. "I made this for you, Mikhail." she said softly, the whole time she spoke her voice never really reaching higher than a soft sigh.

"It's lovely, isn't it Mikhail? It can go with the rest of the collection you've made back at our place."

A soft buzzing sounded, followed by a male's voice coming over a hidden speaker, asking for Adalinda's appearance in one of the other patients rooms.

"I'll be right back," the woman said before walking away, the sound of her clicking heels following her out.
