The Last Stand of the Teutons
« on: December 26, 2011, 07:59:42 PM »
Winter 1998

The morning was cold and windy, the clouds kept the sky dark, and the faint droplets of rain could be felt against exposed skin.  The five members of the League stood at the south-most part of the small island they had settled on, side-by-side, clothed in long trenchcoats which protected them from the harsh elements of the coastal weather.  They looked out to the ship in the distance, watching it's slow approach through the stormy water.  And with it came the threat of another battle, yet each member of the League eagerly awaited the prospect of another fight.  They had been waiting three years for it.

The mysterious group of renegades had retreated to an island to the north of Germany, something which Dietrich Schneider was not too pleased about.  It was their base of operations, and a place where up until now, they had been left in peace to come up with plans of destruction and revolt.  Adalinda seemed to enjoy the haven they had found, but Dietrich thought of it as nothing more than glorified hiding.

Montand: "How long until it gets here?"

Mathieu Montand had been an exception to the old rule of 90 years ago, when Adalinda and Dietrich agreed that the private group they created would be restricted to men and women of Teutonic and German ancestory.  Unfortunately in this day and age, there were a distinct lack of anarchists that hailed from the wonderful nation of Germany, and during their travel they had met Montand, whose fall from grace as one of France's top speed skaters was fuelled by the young man following a dark, taboo-filled path.  He considered Adalinda Knapp to be a woman of wisdom, and was one of the few people to see a method in her madness.

Frederick: "Too long.  I just hope they last a little longer than the last ones that came here."

Laura was giddy with the excitement of what the arriving ship brought, the last time they had any 'fun' as Adalinda liked to put it seemed so long ago that the newly arriving challenge was greatly accepted, and she knew that Adalinda would believe so too. The young German woman tried at all lengths to be alike her 'role model' Adalinda Knapp who had created their little group with Dietrich's military knowledge and power despite the way everything had gone for them in the beginning. Laura Fassbinder was one of the newest members to their League and she was always eager to show off what she could do, how well she could  handle herself and show the three older members exactly she was worthy of their praise. The weather was not the ideal sort for Laura to want to be standing outside watching the arriving ship but seeing it's slow arrival sent small shivers of anticipation through her blood. "I can't wait to get started, it will be so fun to ruin their pathetic plans of seeing us stomped into the dirt and doing the stomping ourselves... I hope there's a pretty boy with them, there was last time... can I have the pretty boy Adalinda?"

Ada stood quietly with her hands clasped together in front of her. They were warm inside the leather gloves she had donned on and kept the rain from penetrating through. She chose to ignore the girl's quick request, instead turning her attention to the group as a whole. The five of them were ready for whatever happened to come their way, they had managed to do way with the threats before and Adalinda Knapp knew that this time would be no different. Her and Dietrich had worked too hard to keep things moving the way they had over the years, with members coming and going except for Frederick who had been with them for just as long as she could remember. "The time will arrive when all of us will be faced with what is expected to be a challenge. I know that in our minds it is a simple kill that will be brought forth but I caution you to not take these new arrivals lightly. We would be fools to expect an easy battle such as we saw last time, and I do not want to find a replacement for any of you anytime soon."

Turning her attention back to the ship in the distance a small smile touched Adalinda's soft red lips. She did not expect them to get much ground once stepping onto the island they all called home, and she was most excited for the chance she was going to get with a few torturous experiments she had been working up since their last encounter with those that opposed their ideals. The excitement was stirring inside her belly waiting to burst out and take its claim but Ada knew that as long as Laura was present, she would have to remain as calm as Dietrich always told her to, she disliked how the girl was taking on traits of her own but she was a good partner for their League and she wasn't going to waste a good body simply because she admired Adalinda so much. Perhaps she would take Montand aside and have a word with him, see if he could get her to change her serious obsession with the red-headed woman.

"We should finish preparing for our guests," she said slipping her arm through Dietrich's, "what kind of hosts are we if we do not give them a perfect welcome to our humble 'home'? I would like to leave them with a lasting impression that we know how to treat our guests well, even those that are unexpected and just as unwelcome.."

Adalinda went in the direction Dietrich had pushed her in, her bizarre heels clicking away as she walked. It was her choice in footwear that always gave off the first impression that Adalinda Knapp was not your ordinary woman, for as long as she could remember there had never been a day that she did not don on the very heels that left her feet in an impossible position to continuesly walk in, yet the woman was able to do it for hours on end and even run/walk at a quick pace that her limited balance shouldn't have been able to do. But with years and years of practice she found no problems with it, and Adalinda knew that she was more known for the ballet-point heels that she wore than her actual reputation of being a crazed-bitch.

She figured that there was going to be a lot of blood spillage happening once their guests arrived, blood that Adalinda knew she would enjoy watching be spilt as well as being the one to make it spill. The German woman had a wardrobe made for exactly that kind of occasion; as she called it "Blood Spilling Festivities" and everything in that wardrobe was white, everything but the black heels she always wore. Adalinda picked out one of her most prettiest dress covered in beautiful lace and held it up to the full-length mirror. It was Dietrich's favourite dress of hers and since she did not get to wear it all that often, it was going to be her 'welcoming' attire for their expected guests.

Slipping out of her wet trench-coat Adalinda changed without bothering to hurry, she knew that there was still much time  until the ship made it to the docks and even after that, there was plenty of time until she had to 'meet' them. She felt like the old man from the American television program she had run across once when Frederick had been flipping through the channels on their TV 'Mr. Rogers' she believed his name was. He wore different sweaters when he did different things, and here she was wearing different outfits for the exact reason. White for guests that were going to be the ones providing her with entertainment, and her everyday clothing for conducting business that wasn't intended to end in a blood-bath. Adalinda had to laugh at herself as she hung up her jacket and made her way back out of the bedroom, her heels clicking once they hit the uncarpeted floor beyond the bedroom door, Laura had once told Adalinda she was like the modern-age Elizabeth Bathory, except she did not fill tubs with blood and bathe in it to remain youthful-- Adalinda didn't need to and she never had to worry about finding a single grey hair in her beautiful red locks because she had once found something better than Bathory had, and would never be killed because of it.

Adalinda found Dietrich still in the room she had left him in, sitting at the bar with a drink on the counter without a care in the world about their arriving guests, Adalinda thought. Coming up behind him she placed her hands on his shoulders and pecked him ever so softly on his stubbly cheek; she did like it when the man went a day or two without shaving. "I'm going to go and make sure the white room is all ready for our arriving guests, after would you like to join me for a cup of tea while we wait?" Adalinda did enjoy a good cup of tea before getting down to any sort of business.

As soon as Mathieu Montand had found out that Vanessa Cameron was on that ship, he was the very first one to get ready.  After all, it had felt like so long since the pair had last met, and it was an understatement to say that there was a little bit of bad blood between them.  They'd been together for a few years, until Vanessa grew sick and tired of the path that Montand followed.  He'd given up his career and turned to the dark side, which was one way to describe it.  Before he knew it, she was half way across the world and he packed his bags and arrived at Adalinda's doorstep, pledging his allegience to her cause.

Montand: "You know, Adalinda told me she's got a special mission for you."

The Frenchman wasn't alone, Laura Fassbinder was in the changing room with him.  He pulled on the blue-coloured fabric which he wore during his speed skating days, the colour signalling the country he once represented.  He had climbed in to the bodysuit as far as the legs, with the upper-part dangling from his waist-down.  He wore a white t-shirt which was almost as tight as the spandex material that clung to his muscled-legs.

His back was turned, one foot had climbed on to the bench and he was in the process of tying up one of the boots he was planning to wear until he reached his ice-covered turf, where his choice of footwear would change to his favourite skates.  Next to him was a bag which contained what Laura would be using on this 'special mission'.  A roll of duct tape.

Montand: "Do you wanna know what it is?"

Laura didn't normally talk much to Montand when they were alone, she tried to avoid it which she knew was absolutely silly of her, but Laura felt this pathetic jealousy inside whenever Adalinda and Montand spoke. The young German woman knew that Adalinda liked her-- but she always seemed to share more with Montand than with herself which was what caused the jealousy issue. She'd been around before Montand had shown up and yet he knew more about things going on and who was in trouble with who than Laura did, and it bugged her. She was absolutely certain that the man knew about it too, that she was jealous of his close relationship with Adalinda and she was left on the outside. Laura had always thought that because Adalinda had personally brought her into the League they would have some sort of close bond together, and being the only two females she would share things with her she couldn't with anyone else, other than Dietrich. But the woman who Laura Fassbinder admired so much and wanted to be like did the complete opposite and Laura sometimes wondered if maybe her admiration was coming off too strong.

Which was why when Montand brought up Adalinda having a special mission for her not only did she instantly grow curious and rather excited but there was irritation that Adalinda had told him-- and not directly spoke to her about it. She wasn't too sure if he was lying or not, considering she hadn't seen Adalinda since the pair had gone inside but chances were he wasn't kidding and she wasn't going to ruin her chances on finding out by calling him a liar... besides, it could end up with her getting into trouble for not believing him.

After finishing the routine check on Frederick's flamethrower to make sure it was in working order (without actually using it, he hated anyone else other than himself using it) she turned around to face Montand's back as he laced up his boot. "Oh yeah? Of course I wanna know, I'm sure it's more exciting than making sure everything for you lot is in working order..." truth be told, Laura didn't think Ada would believe she was capable of dealing with their 'guests' after what had happened last time. She'd gotten just a little... too out of hand.

Montand smirked, his face still hidden and his back still turned towards her.  Oh, it was exciting alright.  Montand knew that there was usually only one role for a young, attractive woman such as Laura.  And it wasn't to make sure that Frederick's flamethrower was tanked up, or that Dietrich's gas grenades were all ready to go.  He lowered his foot, and lifted the other one up to the bench, beginning to tighten the laces up on it.  Montand was in no apparent hurry -- even though the boat was quickly advancing on the shore.  He figured that the boat would keep it's distance, and send in a team either by a smaller boat or have them swim underwater and try to take them by surprise.  Obviously, that plan had already failed.

Montand: "Well Laura..."

He sighed and dropped his second foot, leaning forward and digging around in his bag for the roll of silver tape which she would be using for the next short while.  Spinning around on the spot, he pulled a long strip about two foot long from the roll and held it up in front of his face.

Montand: "You're going to be our little spy for the evening.  Our little tied-up damsel-in-distress that the invasion team are gonna 'rescue'..."

Laura backed up quickly from Montand as he held up the long piece of tape in front of him almost knocking over Frederick's flamethrower in the process as it sat nicely perched up against the wall where she had left it. "No way," her protest was pointless, Laura knew as well as Montand there was no point in it. The door was behind him and for her to reach it she would have to get past him-- which wasn't going to happen. And even if she did what would she do then? It wasn't like she could run to Adalinda like a little girl crying about Montand not being fair and trying to tie her up to play the damsel role, especially if she told him that is what Laura was supposed to be doing. It didn't mean she had to like it though.

"Why do I have to do it?" she demanded pointing a figure at the French man as if it was all his fault, "why do we have to have a damsel in the first place? And why exactly do I have to spy on them? How do I know that this isn't just your idea to get me tucked away nicely out of your way to show off what a hot-shot you are?"

Laura should have known that nobody would trust her after losing her cool last time, it had been unexpected when she had after handling everything so well up until the conclusion of it all. "I'll tell you what, you can be the damsel in distress and I'll make sure that you're put somewhere nice and noticeable where they will be sure to pick you up and save you." She inched her way along the wall choosing the side that gave her more space between Montand and herself so if he lunged for her, she could easily run. It was stupid, but she was going to be childish about it and run for Adalinda to find out for a fact it was her idea and not his, the only thing that was needed now was her to shout 'I'm telling!'.
