Author Notes: This is just a short story based off some RPG characters of mine. If you want a picture of what they look like, then this is Emanulle and this is the family he's been staying with: .(Blue haired guy is Jerod, orange hair girl is Kimiko and blue haired girl is Aiko. The woman isn't important as she's deceased)

 And this would be Emanulle

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the better part of three months, Emanulle had been quickly adjusting to this realm he found himself in. The place wasn't that different from where he lived if you wanted to compare it technology-wise, except for the fact that was far as he knew only humans lived here. Which was fine since he could blend in perfectly and no one would be none the wiser for it.

But he was staying with a friend and his two little girls so it wasn't too jarring being in this place, even if he had to admit befriending him to the point of being able to stay was dumb luck. If he hadn't, he would have a harder time but he managed before.

“-What are you doing?”

Emanulle glanced back to see Aiko, the little girl hadn't really cared for him at first that much but had warmed up to him later. Kimiko was much more docile and shy, but then again she was younger and couldn't talk even if she wanted too. Aiko though, could talk your ear off if you let her and she liked you enough.

“Cleaning.” The demon answered, going back to washing dishes. If he was going to stay he might as well make himself somewhat useful around the house because he hated free loading. It was the very least he could do to help out all things considered.

Aiko didn't respond, she instead went to the lower cabinet to get a cup. “Why are you scared of Hannah?”

Emanulle knew she was referring to their family dog St. Bernard. On a intellectual level he knew that despite its size she was more or less harmless, that and she wouldn't be a threat even if she wasn't. However he had his reasons for feeling wary about dogs, rational or not but not everything was even for him.

“I wasn't. I was keeping a tactically safe distance.”

“Isn't that the same thing?”

Before he could respond, Emanulle picked up the click, click sound of running paws and knew who was coming instantly before they got there. A large ball of fluff covered in dirt followed by a slightly mess Kimiko, who didn't seem to mind being dirty. Her orange hair was a mess as were her clothes but that was probably the least of her concerns.

Hannah made a bee-line towards Emanulle, and then just sat there on her rump as if waiting for something.

“See?” Aiko pointed out, rubbing the over-sized dogs ear. “She's nice.”

He couldn't tell if it was against his better judgment, but he cautiously approached the animal, hesitating a moment before petting her on the head. When she didn't respond badly and instead had her tail thumping against the hard wood floor, Emanulle slow smile turned something a bit closer to a smirk after.

'Maybe she's not that bad after all.'

He still wasn't going to any dog pounds anytime soon.

* *

After all he had seen and experienced, one would think Emanulle not be the least bit surprised or curious about something as simple as snow.

And then they would be wrong.

Running into new races and cultures along with many of the other things he had seen and done were always nice, but consistently what amazed and impressed him were the simple things normal people took for granted. It could range from something as simple spending time with family but it usually didn't take much.

Currently, the whole family was out in the front year and enjoying the winter. Aiko was dressed in a winter coat and such, but Kimiko was in a coat so big Emanulle wouldn't be surprised if someone could roll her down a hill. It wasn't flattering and she probably had a bit of trouble moving around but she didn't seem to mind. Jerod was talking to a friend of his a bit away from the group, Emanulle didn't really have a interest of what they had been talking about it so he long tuned it out into background noise for the moment.

Somewhere in the background, Kimiko was trying to unsuccessfully pull a plastic chew toy from Hannah's mouth, but the dog was smart enough to simply go along with it instead of staying in place. All and all, it was a amusing but cute scene.

Emanulle held out his hand, feeling a snowflake fall into his outstretched gloved fingers.

Just like frozen rain..

“Hey Manny.” Aiko called out yet again for the countless time that day, having finished her makeshift snowman with stubby arms made of sticks. “Does it snow where you come from?”

“No. It doesn't little one.” He didn't try to correct her with saying his name, the nickname had become somewhat endearing after a while. “Mother nature is a bit more flighty where I come from.”

“Mother nature? Is that a person?”

Emanulle regarded her with a bit amusement, he forgot things were a bit different here. “Mother nature is a term used to describe how the world works, naturally. Like right now with it snowing or even when it rains that's mother nature.”

Aiko's mouth opened to a small 'O' as if she understood what he meant, but whether that was certain couldn't be determined.

“..So you have a princess?” The question coming out of nowhere, but Emanulle had become accustomed to this from Aiko.

“Hmm? No I can't say I do.”

“Why not? Don't all princes have to have a princess?”

“I just haven't found mine yet.” Emanulle took off his gloves so he could feel the snow, a rather simple task but he liked the feel of it and it didn't bother him like a normal person would.

“And I think with some people, they never find their prince or princess because they stop looking. Others think they aren't good enough to find one, and more still think they'll never find one so they don't look.” He wasn't talking about anyone in particular at the moment; it was just an observation.

Aiko didn't respond. Her face oddly thoughtful, and then:

“That's dumb. How can they find something if they don't look?”

Emanulle paused, thinking on what she said before chuckling. “If more people knew the answer to that question Aiko, I think many other people would be much happier.”

Before the conversation could continue, both noticed something. Hannah for one reason or another ran to the snowman Kimiko had made earlier, likely to fetch some plastic toy of some sort. Whatever the case was, the large dog soon collided with it; sending snow and what used to be wooden arms everywhere.

Kimiko had a look of horror on her small face, as if Hannah just brutally murdered a living person.

It was hard, but Emanulle kept from laughing to further upset her. It was just she was so serious about it.

Never the less he went over and crouched down by her and the fallen snowman. “No long faces, we can rebuild him better as good, promise. So no more crying, okay?”

There was a small nod in response, but she rubbed her small eyes a bit. Aiko had rolled her eyes at her younger sister slightly, but went to go help the two rebuild the fallen snowman.

This continued until the very end of the day until they lost track of time.
