Genesis: Legend of the Two Beasts

Many eons ago, there was only the Land of the Gods. Many Gods had made their own worlds except two Gods, Sysena, Goddess of Light, and Aion, God of Darkness and Death. Sysena and Aion warred constantly, so much so that Sysena left the Land of the Gods in search of a place where no God or Goddess roamed. She would occasionally seek refuge with her allies but Aion always found her. Until, after centuries of running, she reached the end of the Universe. She found nothing here, all complete darkness. An darkness surrounded by darkness. She could not stay there for Aion lived in darkness and despised the light. So she created Light and Fire, giving birth to the sun and stars.

She created Earth and Water to form our Earth and Moon. Then she made Mountains, valleys, islands, rivers and oceans on the earth.   Sysena created a barrier of light blocking off the silvery side of the moon for herself. But she unknowingly left the dark side unprotected. Sysena was so excited about her new world, that she wanted to walk upon it and give it life. So she became the Holy Beast, a giant fox with fur the color of night and white tribal markings around the eyes.

She walked along the land, trees sprouting from her footsteps. Sysena was so happy that she neglected her home on the moon and roamed the land as a fox. But Aion was still searching for her. He eventually came to the end of the Universe and saw her moon. He could not touch the silver side so he rested on the dark side.

When the moon turned, showing the darkside to the world, Aion watched the Holy Beast run and play with other creatures. He became jealous of her freedom and joy and took form. To mock Sysena and the Light, he made his fur silver with black markings over his eyes. He was larger than Sysena had been. He approached the fox and challenged her to fight. But she ran in fear, for Sysena had become the fox for quite some time, and was beginning to lose herself. But when Aion mocked her, she remembered who she was. She used her holy light to blind him and got away.

She hid for three moons until she felt safe again. Knowing she could not fight Aion on her own, she made six animal warriors to protect her. The bird, the bull, the serpent, the bear, the cat and the monkey. These gigantic animals fought to protect the Mother from the Dark Beast. Flint the Bear, Orion the monkey, Volos the bull, Liluge the bird, Guryon the cat and Kieran the serpant. Flint had super strength and ability to manipulate water. Orion had the power to take other forms and draw metal from the earth, Volos possessed super strength and the power to manipulate the earth, Guryon the cat was agile, could see in the darkness, and control wood. Kieran the serpant controlled fire. Liluge could fly and manipulate the wind.

But Aion continued to chase Sysena, from his footprints came the Valleys of Holes. He spit Fire into the mountains to draw Sysena out and they became volcanoes. When he fianlly found Sysena, she was surrounded by six enourmous beasts. Aion laughed and called their shadows into form. He sent them to attack the warriors as he subdued Sysena. But while all were fighting, Sysena and Kieran snuck away.

In order to hide from Aion, Sysena created many knew being with two legs instead of four. She gave herself and Kieran their form and hid among the creatures. She became a woman with tan skin, black hair and black eyes. Kieran became a man with the same features except his eyes became red like the fire that burned within him.

Aion and his minions managed to wound the Holy warriors, but when the dust from the battlefield cleared, he discovered that Sysena had escaped. He bellowed in rage, his roar shook the land and darkned the skies. He sent his minions to find Sysena. Many years later, Snow the Silver Bird, came back with news of new beings roaming the land. So Aion ventured out and captured one, he studied its form and took the form himself. He then granted these powers to his minions and ordered them to find Sysena.

They did not find her. Many say that Sysena lived a mortal life and had offspring. So from this belief, the clans believe that Aion and Sysena will be reincarnated and the fight will begin again.

Obsidian

Birth

Dawn screamed as she pushed, her sweat dripping down her face. The maids surrounding her held their hands close to her loins in order to catch the babe Dawn was birthing.
“I see the head!” Nanna yelled excitingly. The silver fox had taken over Dawn’s birthing as she had given birth to three children before her employment with the Holy Clan. Nanna looked at Dawn. “Breathe as you push.”
   Dawn breathed erratically. “I can’t.”
“Calm down,” Nanna looked at one of the other maids. “Don’t just stand there, wipe her brow.” The maid got up and practically ran to Dawn’s side. The maid placed a rag in cold water and wiped the sweat off Dawn’s face. She looked back at Dawn. “You can’t give up. You have to push.”
Dawn took a few more breaths and she pushed hard.
“The shoulders have come through, the hardest part is over. Now one more big push, love.”  Nanna looked at the maid at her left. “Get the dagger and rag ready.” The maid pulled out a dagger and a clean rag. She began to clean the dagger thoroughly to make sure it was clean. Nanna looked at Dawn. “Ready to push harder that you’ve pushed so far?”
Dawn nodded her head. She took a deep breath and pushed with all her might. The baby came out and Dawn lay down completely on the floor.
Nanna held up the baby to Dawn. “It’s a boy.” The baby was born with silver hair. Everyone in the room including Dawn, gasped.
Dawn recovered quickly, panting out the words. “Let me see him.”
“One minute, milady.” Nanna placed her mouth on the infant’s and sucked out the placenta. As she spat it out, the baby cried out. Nanna cut the baby’s cord and handed him to his mother.
Dawn stroked the child’s full head of silver hair. “He is a silver fox. Why?”
The maids looked at each other. One said, “The prophesy is true.”
“As an Oracle, I’ve heard of only one prophesy. Two will be born, not of their kind but the other. One who gives life and one who takes life.” Nanna looked at Dawn.
Dawn lay with her babe, her skin pale and her body limp and empty. She held the babe at her chest, where he lay crying for a mother who had been taken away from him.
Nanna grabbed a blanket and wrapped the babe in it. She made sure she did not touch him. “What did Lady Dawn name him before he was born?” Nanna looked at the other maids.
“Obsidian.” The youngest maid said. The other maid covered Dawn’s body.

Jade was playing outside when the bell tolled. Someone had died. He held his ball and looked up to see the clansmen and servants running around the main house like it was on fire. He knew his sister was giving birth. So he walked into the main house and heard a baby crying. He followed the noise, he wanted to see his sister’s baby. He passed by many people who was going the same way as he was. Then when he reached his sister’s room, the clansmen were kneeling with their heads down and the maids were crying. He tried to open the door but everyone kept stopping him. Why couldn’t he see his sister? He fought the people in his way. He dropped his ball and pushed past them. When he entered his sister’s room, he saw something wrapped in a blanket, crying. That must be the baby. It had silver hair and not black hair.
Jade looked around. Where was his sister? Then he saw a blanket with black hair coming out from under it. He ran towards the thing and grabbed the blanket and pulled it off. His sister lay there, she was pale and she was not breathing. Jade started to panic and cry, he called out his sister’s name. He shook her body and she did not move.
“No, don’t leave me alone.” He said as he shook her body one last time. He placed his head on her stomach and wept.
Nanna knelt next to the young master and rubbed his back. She sang his favorite lullaby as she wrapped her arms around him and rocked him gently. The oldest maid took the babe out of the room and placed him in the rocker his mother and Nanna weaved for him.

The Funeral
All of the Holy house wore black for a total of six weeks. Jade and Dawn were all that was left of the clan’s ruling family and Jade was too young to rule the Clan. So the elders gathered a council with Nanna as the acting head, and Jade observing meetings. But today, the whole house gathered for Dawn’s funeral.
The mourners gathered in a circle with Jade at the top of the hill overlooking the clan’s territory. He held his sister’s urn as each mourner touched the urn to say good bye. Many gave their condolences, Jade stared at the urn, his mind toning out the whispers. The mourners returned to their places and began to sing the mourning song.
Jade waited for them to finish so he could say the prayer and spread his sister’s ashes. He didn’t want to be here, with these people. He wanted to hide in his sister’s room like he did when storms passed through. He swallowed a huge lump in his throat. He would not cry at his sister’s funeral, he was to be the leader of their clan, one day.
The mourners finished singing and Jade looked up at the sky. He took a deep breath and said the funeral prayer.
“Great Mother, welcome my sister back into your womb, She comes to you and know she is blessed, for her life has been one she is proud of. As she enters your world, wrap her up in your arms, and welcome her.” Jade held up the urn and took the top off. As he spoke the prayer, he turned around and poured out the ashes. Her ashes poured into the wind and was carried out to the Great Mother. Jade was happy for his sister for death ended her pain and gave new life for her. He knew she would come back someday, when he was old and dying.
He closed the lid of the urn and turned around to face the mourners. Jade looked at the little baby who came from his sister. At first, he hated the baby for ending his sister’s life but Nanna said it was not the child’s fault. No one could touch the baby, a nurse was holding him, the baby was wrapped in a blanket. Jade gave the urn to Nanna as he walked away from the ceremony.
Jade wanted a distraction so he looked at Nanna. “Can we decide what to do with Obsidian now?”
Nanna leaned down to Jade’s ear level. “When everyone exit’s the ceremony.”
Jade looked at the crowd, some people were leaving. Jade exhaled, he was greatly annoyed.  He wanted to call the elders and get their opinion on baby Obsidian. He knew he should mourn his sister but he wanted everything done first.
Nanna looked at the boy master and placed her hand on his head. “You are too impatient, young master. Go to your sister’s room and rest. I will ask the Elders when they are ready to meet with you.”
Jade sighed and followed one of the Elders to the main house. He walked towards his sister’s room. He was relieved the ceremony was over, he can go to his sister’s room and lay with her things. He knew it was a strange thing to do because the other kids teased him about it. But he missed his sister, she was like a mother to him. Their parents died when he was a baby and his sister and Nanna raised him.
Jade walked into his sister’s room. It looked the way it was before she died. Her robes were hanging up on their racks and her hairpins were placed on her vanity. Nanna ordered this room cleaned after his sister died, so he wouldn’t see her blood on the floor. He walked towards her bed and lay down, inhaling his sister’s scent. He covered himself with her cover, making a cocoon for himself. He lay there for hours, not caring how far the time passed until he finally fell asleep.
