She was feverish and unresponsive for most of the day.  The healer feared that their only hope of rescue had just poisoned herself with the same sickness that putrified the blood of the other victims.  There was nothing she could do, but at least the dark beast that refused to leave her side allowed her near to lay cool, wet cloths across the slayer woman's forehead.  Of course, it did nothing to help, but she felt better that she was at least doing something other than sitting by and watching everyone in her care die from the agonizing venom.
The healer returned after supper, and was surprised to see Ky'ria's eyes open.  Her breath, though ragged, was no longer labored, and her hand rested in the fur of the shadow fox, which had still yet to leave her side.  "Miss?  ...Are you alright?"  Though Ky'ria's eyes were open, there was almost no comprehension within them.  A touch at her wrist to check her pulse showed her skin to still be sweaty and cool, but it had at least improved from before.  So there was still hope...  She moved around the infirmary, checking on the others within the room, but stopped at a low, menacing growl from across the room.  The slayer's demon had lifted his head and was staring at the wall, growling low in his throat.  The muscles on Ky'ria's face shifted slightly, and her hand tightened in his fur, even as he rose to a stand.  It saw something that she could not...  Or rather, sensed it.  Cold fear washed through the healer.  Had the monster come to the town?  Was it just outside, seeking out more victims?
The growling stopped suddenly, those two red eyes looking down to the prone body of his mistress when her hand moved, releasing his fur, and sliding down into her lap.  "Find it."  Her voice was soft and weak, and the healer wasn't even really sure she heard it, but in a flash the shadow fox leapt from her cot and bounded for the door, pushing it open with his snout, and vanished into the darkness before he was even completely through the opening.

The moon was high in the night sky by the time that Ky'ria seemed to have returned to her senses, but there was no sign of the shadow fox having returned.  She wordlessly accepted water from the healer, who was amazed at her rapid recovery, and that the fever had almost completely burned off.  "This is a miracle...  The gods themselves have blessed you..."
Ky'ria snorted indelicately and continued to drink from the cup of water.  "Your gods had nothing to do with this.  I created an anti-venom from the lingering traces left in the bodies of your fighters.  An imperfect one, given what I had to work with, but it served its purpose.  If I am struck by this monster you fools have called down on yourselves, then I will have a chance to survive the venom."  She had no doubt that she would feel the sting of its barbs and poison for herself before this was through.  But at least this way she would survive long enough to obtain a sample of live venom to create an antidote that would, hopefully, save Micah.
"Then, can you not also give it to our wounded?" the healer asked hopefully, glancing once more to the body of the young man that was drawing ever closer to death.
Another uncaring snort.  "If a true anti-venom could be crafted from their putrid blood, then I would have already made it.  Your whelps cannot be saved with what is available here.  I must obtain a fresh sample from the beast itself in order to create an antidote.  I merely inoculated myself against the worst of its effects until such time as a true syrum can be created."  The conversation was effectively ended there, as Ky'ria settled back into the limp pillows and mattress to rest until Xamos returned.

Ky'ria laid in a sweaty, fitful half-sleep for the rest of the night, never quite falling fully under, and yet not quite fully aware, either.  The fever returned for a brief period of time, but by the stretching of dawn over the land, it had vanished utterly, fleeing from her body like the darkness around them.  Such a happening was not lost on her, either, despite the fogginess of her mind.  Finally, well into morning, Ky'ria was at last able to catch true sleep, and did not wake until into the afternoon.  She only stirred once, and that was when, around high noon, she felt a faint brush of fur against her hand and a weight settle on the bed next to her.  Her hand passed through the cooler spot on the bedside at her hip, and though she touched nothing now but the covers that had been lain over her, she knew her companion had returned.  The fight with the venom had weakened her badly, and so she did not leave the bed for the rest of the day, enlisting the assistance of the local healer to brew up an elixer that would help her regain her energy.  Time was running short.  Each moment watsted was a moment less that Micah had to live.  But, to go out too soon would be a certain invitation of her own death.  A careful balance of life and death.

By nightfall her energy had returned sufficiently, though she would still have to travel with care.  Before she left, she set out all the components she would need to create a true anti-venom upon her return.  If things went the way she feared they did tonight, then she could not waste any time gathering materials afterwards.  She gave the healer a stern look that matched her words; that if anything in the infirmary had so much as moved a hair's breadth when she returned, then she blood would spill.  As the demon slayer left the woman shaking where she had stood, she somehow gathered the composure needed to set one of the remaining youths as a guard.

Ky'ria traveled light; only that which would be needed was brought along, all else stripped from her horse and set aside.  Xamos stood ready at her side, staring unwaveringly into the forest.  The shadowfox had caught a trail the night before, and now knew where to find the beast that stalked the country.  "Come," she spoke low to her partner.  "We fight."
Xamos let out a long, keening howl to the moonless sky, and then bounded towards the forest beyond Fyrehaven, Ky'ria following close behind.

There were those who thrived on the thrill of the hunt.  For them, the moments before battle were an eternity, and time spent waiting after preparations were done was time wasted.  The same could be said of demon slayers; some took to it with brutal gusto, holding no fear of the monsters they were sent to destroy.  And just as there were normal people who avoided fights and preferred to work with traps, so too were there slayers with these methods.  Ky'ria was neither, but both.  A blend of many facets of the trade.  She had learned quick that to be welcome, she had to be useful, and to be useful, she learned as many skills as possible.  She was an accomplished tracker, marksman, fighter and trap builder.  She could hear the trees and speak into the wind.  It would take every skill she had to face this thing and emerge living.
The goal was not to kill it tonight.  Tonight, her mission was to wound it if possible, but above all to collect a fresh sample of the poison.  It was a high likelyhood that her own body would be the vessel in which she would carry it back to the town.  It was why she brought the horse, but left it at the edge of the trees, allowing her to stand loose, in case something were to attack while she was away.  From the packs she drew out a number of blades, which all found a home on her body.  Last to emerge was a long curved bow of dull black wood, and a quiver of long, thick arrows, the tips formed from the teeth and claws of prior kills.
Together they moved silently into the trees, ears and eyes straining to pick out any tiny sound.  The forest was silent, meaning the thing was somewhere near, within a few miles at least.  Its wicked presence was enough to still the forest for miles around.  She carefully knelt by a larger tree and pulled the glove from her hand to place her palm on the roots just above the frozen earth.  Her eyes drooped, and Xamos stood as guard while she listened.
The voice of the forest was quiet, barely a whisper.  It was winter, after all, and the trees were sleeping, but they, too, feared the evil that lingered beneath their boughs.  But Ky'ria was patient, and in time, she heard what she needed.
North.

The two partners traveled quickly, their passing leaving no trace any larger than a passing deer might leave.  Now and again Ky'ria paused to once more listen to the voice of the forest, but Xamos had caught the fresh scent, and now he took point, leading the demonslayer to her quarry.  There would be no joy in this hunt.  Not yet.  Her thoughts lingered only on emerging alive with a fresh sample, and to last long enough to create the anti-venom for Micah.  He deserved that much of her, at least.
After an hour their pace slowed to a crawl.  They were near to it now, so close that Ky'ria herself could feel the taint it left behind.  The hair along Xamos' back was raised, muscles tense, but he remained silent, the growl dying in his throat before it found voice.  No doubt the demon already knew they were there.  But to be safe, they remained silent.  Just in case whatever gods had forged this beast saw fit to grant their graces on the two tonight.
