"I understand" she nodded "I do have one question about your breakfast. Who is preparing it since the cooks all get to sleep in? Does your steward know how to properly prepare steak and eggs?" Tamalyn grinned.

"On to more important questions. How much longer do you think it will be before you arrive in Tamber? I find it difficult to figure out how quickly an army can move, then you add in drills and families and I quickly get lost" she admitted with a shrug.

"Most of the Second Army is already in Tamber," he replied. "They are garrisoning their forts now and releasing the caretakers back to their legions. "These troops are part of the escort for families still on the way. We took a day of rest for repairs and to rest the horses, men can rest on the march," he grinned at that. "As to my breakfast, one of my cousins is moving with us, my wife and children went ahead, my cousin is my cook on this march, good Talmar cooking like I haven't had in a few years."

"I haven't had much Talmarrii cuisine. Dwarven cuisine is quite frequent for me. I am not sure why, but everyone is always convinced that I need to try it" she smiled, "I suppose they do not realize that I had a dwarven cheff for at least five years. I did try an elvish dish recently, it was very good. Is pigeon often featured in Talmarrii cuisine?"

"I suppose if someone was desperate, pigeon would be an alternative," he shrugged. "I know they eat it in Hesterbur, poor man's chicken. Quail, highland hens, pheasant, are all acceptable birds for the table. There are many others of course. I like mutton, a slab or a stew, either are fine. Heavy bread. Barley soup, good thick, hot porridge. Food that sticks to you."

"Oh, I do not eat pigeon" she shook her head, "I am not usually a picky eater though, so I try to avoid food from places that I know serves pigeons. As for birds, did you know that there is a frontier hen in the province? I have tried it and it is quite tasty. I am hoping that someone will eventually raise them. But, I haven't had a chance to suggest that Annika Blade persue that angle yet." She considered his other comments, "how many of your family have decided to relocate to Tamber? Are there any artisans among them? I have numerous opportunities for good artisans, especially weavers and potters" she added.

"There is some fine cloth available in Talmarrii" she agreed with a nod. Tamalyn finished her meal, "thank you for inviting me to dine with you. Please give my compliments to your cousin as well. I should probably head back soon. I don't wish to keep you from your duties, and I must rest and gather energy for my busy day tomorrow." She looked at Oldwine, "I need to return. I am sure that you will find your way back after you and Marshal Serpental discuss all the exercise details in length" she added giving him a small smile. "I look forward to your arrival in Tamber Marshal Serpental" she added before returning to her guards. Tamalyn and her guards returned to camp and she retired for the night.

The morning found her again ready to work. "Good morning Papa," she greeted him, "I met with Marshal Serpental last night. I thought he was a very nice man" she said, "surprisingly hospitable" she added

"I suppose that you are correct. He was different than most. They are usually polite enough, answering my questions, but always seem happiest when I am leaving. Lord Serpental was different, he invited me to dine with him and then did not spend the dinner discussing the militia. In fact, I tried to talk about it, he answered me, then changed the subject. It was very unexpected."

"Aren't most youths impetuous? I would think that only those who do not settle down would be concerning" she added. "Though from what you said before, I would think he settled down because of the loss of Ramon Telbrantil-Melldress I."  Tamalyn had known a few people who had died, but so far none who had effected her on a personal level, she could empathise though. It would be hard not to, because she could feel the strong emotions of people. She hadn't felt the over powering feelings of loss from Serpental that she did from Stormy, but he had much longer to suppress it than Stormy had. Tamalyn pushed aside those thoughts and focused on the mountain they were building.

"Ir would make for an interesting militia observation position. Or watching the dragons during mating season" she nodded, she looked at the mountain, "it may be difficult to climb up there though" she added. "Perhaps the dwarves will carve out a patg to it in time" she said considering options. "Either way, I think it would be an interesting feature" she agreed, knowing that in the very least she could use it.

"I am fairly certain that they will consider that, if only because they do not enjoy being hot anymore" she smiled. "I am sure that in time they will acclimate" she added with a shrug. "I should go find Oldwine. I am curious as to whether Serpental took the posting Oldwine offered him last night. I will see you in the morning" she said before kissing his cheek.

Tamalyn returned to the encampment and found Oldwine, "did you offer Serpental the posting?"

"He is taking it under consideration," Oldwine replied. "I believe he's insuring that he isn't being used to pushh out Corrandon. Conscientious man, I did mention if I was getting rid of someone I'd just do it and be done and then fill his place, but he's got caution built from experience."

"I can understand his concern, caution is a good thing. I do like his answer. I will have to remember it when I am faced with difficult decisions" she added. "I liked him" she said, "I wasn't sure at first but he was pleasant and surprisingly open. He even discussed his family with me. In fact, I think they are currently his largest concern since he brought them up so frequently. It may well be his consideration of the offer has more to do with them than Corrandon. He would be home more, but he will also have more eyes upon him, which could look on his family as well. From what my father says I don't think he could handle another loss" she said with concern. "But, I doubt that any of my enemies would seek out his family. I am so much more fun to attack" she shrugged.

"He'll have the full militia to get through, and then the Tamber Duchy garrisons, to then fight through the city garrisons, just to fight his marshall's guard, and then whatever is left has to argue with him, and he spars daily," Oldwine replied.

"All of that implies an army would be going specifically for them. Yes, he will be able to have guards watch them, but that wasn't what I meant. I just meant that he will be in a greater position of power which will bring more attention to himself" she shrugged, "he is cautious and will consider all aspects before he makes his decision. His wife likes Tamber City, so that will probably sway him" she added.

"She is already in Tamber and Marshal Serpental told me what she wants" she said smiling. "If I understood, she has found the house she wants, now she wants to make it hers." She considered, "It sounded like this was something she wanted to do. I would hate to take tgat away from her. But, I could send her a fountain as a welcoming gift. I should probably do something similar for all the Marshal's families."

"Wouldn't be a bad idea, but they're army wives, they're used to making do and making it into what they want, part of the life. Serpental's wife didn't come from army roots though. Her family raised sheep in the high mountain meadows and drove them down to lower pastures in the fall to winter. She grew up in tents and wagons."

"I think I will have my dresser go through my fabrics for the other Marshal's wives." Tamalyn considered her conversation with Serpental, he hadn't said she had bought a house, he had said she was buying a house.

Tamalyn sat down in a camp chair and searched the city for Lady Serpental. She was tired, but searching and watching wasn't difficult for her. When she found her she carefully watched her and let the surface thouggts come to her.
