"Rilly is hard to rattle, but it is fun when you do it," he agreed. "You may want to arrange for soldiers to be ready to move furniture as it arrives. My staff be in a panic to make sure they meet the deadline, so when things arrive, it will be in lots."

"Mine have not yet had that opportunity. Though I did get Amyrillis to say bugger the other day when I sent her out to buy toys, all the toys she could find" Tamalyn smiled, "I think that might almost count. And she came through with toys for each of the children who have arrived so far." She smiled, "if you haven't been to the camp, you might want to, if only to see those little ones clutching their toys. It was worth it, but of course that was the smallest group of those freed. The bigger groups come in tomorrow morning, at least the volunteers had a practice run" she added.

"Nothing needs to be said," he shrugged. "And I needed something to slap the smug out of my people. They're getting complacent."

"Thank you, for both the compliment and the help. General Stonecutter designed the building, and has never let me down. I have to admit that out of everything that has been thrown at me during the processes of building the province this orphange has been the most troubling for me. Those children have already been through so much" she said quietly, "the responsibility to provide for them, to give them lives worth living" she paused, "well, I couldn't do it alone" she added. "So I am very grateful for all the assistance to make their transition easier." She thought about everything he had said and done so far. "There is still a lot to do, but at least the children will be clean, fed, and have beds to sleep in. I am very grateful for that. Now w just have to scour the country for more teachers, nannies, wet nurses, and the like. I believe that Uma Telbrantil-Melldress is working on that now, or so I was told." She paused, "thank you again for everything, I just don't know what else to say."

"I was a guest," he grinned. "I don't go in much for clubs myself, unless you count the lounges of Handron Hall. As to kitting this place out, your ladies have set a high standard. No bunk beds, but they'd like to see two beds per room, each with a good, solid chest and wardrobe and a double desk with chairs. That means enough to furnish 3,500 rooms," he spoke as they walked into one of the long barracks. "Good-sized rooms," he observed, seeing that each was eight by ten feet, with the door on the ten foot wall.  Put a bed at each end, a wardrobe beside each bed and their chests under the window, and they can sit on those as well to enjoy a breeze and then the desk in the middle of the room. Very nice. In time, as the older children grow up, you can reduce them to single rooms."

As he spoke, several scribes were making measurements and taking notes.

"Each building three stories tall, with the ground floor for the baths, and a common area. Well thought out." He was still thinking out loud. Two hundred per building," he said after doing a quick count on his fingers. "Thirty five barracks, plus the cottages and apartments for staff." He turned to one of his scribes. "I don't envy you the task of kitting this place out, but I'm sure that if you deliver everything to the commons outside by lunch, Her Highness can find enough soldiers to place everything."

The scribe gulped audibly. "That will be a deep cut into stock at several outfitters."

"Yes, especially when you recall that you'll need to provide cradles for infants as well. I have a full list of their needs," he passed a stack of parchment over. "Provided by the orphanage staff. See that it is filled by lunch, there'll be people waiting to set things in place so they can move the children in by breakfast tomorrow." He made a shooing motion and they left quickly, and in a combination of panic and despair.

"Your father has already seen to stocking the kitchens, laundries and baths," he observed. "The rangers and druids should be working over the grounds any moment now. The King has seen to the outfitting of the hospital and infirmaries, and I understand that you should have a dozen healers here today as well, all young, but promising. The Palatine are seeing to the children's uniforms and linens , as well as all of the needs of the encampments, and outfitting the staff offices. The Royal Engineers are building the outside game fields and play areas. Plenty of room for that, must be a thousand acres within the walls. Well done."

"I was not aware that you were a member of the club in Tamber. Well, in all honesty, I wasn't aware there was a club until last night" she admitted. "I do not spend much time socializing. Though, I do know the young women you spoke with." She looked around the building, "most of this province was built this way, it was the most expedient way. But nothing was as important to have built quickly as this one. There are over six thousand orphaned children with no place to call home" she added. "So tell me Lord Bragg, can you resist filling the building and helping me to give them a home?"

"Somewhat amazed at all of this, appearing to have grown from the ground," he replied with a jaunty air. "A pair of intrepid young women cornered me at the club last night while I was talking business, and convinced me that I needed to see how grand and empty it all is, and to see if I could suppress the urge to fill these spaces."

"Is he now?" She rose, "then I shall go and have a chat with him" she smiled. "A better patron we could not ask for" she added. "Enjoy your shopping."

It didn't take Tamalyn long before she too was at the orphanage. "God morning Lord Bragg, how are you today?" She aked him as she approached.

"At the risk of torture for interrupting such an enlightening conversation," Amrick said from the doorway, "Belinda is waiting to outfit the ladies in Hesterbur, and Cecil Bragg is wandering the Orphanage with several people taking notes."

Tamalyn smiled at them both, "threats aside, I speak the truth. I make suggestions, you make decisions and you are answerable for the decisions. That is as true for me as it is for you. I answer to every citizen in the province, to the king, to parliament and to myself. Now, if you want suggestions for retired military cooks, I am sure that my steward,  Lysaa Corrandon, could point you in the right direction" she smiled, "see, I make suggestions" she shrugged.
